Green Paper for Culture - deadline 15 October 2010
Our rich cultural heritage and strong sense of identity provide amazing opportunities to make Cornwall a great place to live, visit or invest.
As the second largest unitary authority in England, and the largest employer in Cornwall, we have a responsibility to provide strategic leadership, using our power, resource and influence to protect and grow Cornwall’s cultural assets. This leadership will become more critical as we ride out a period of recession and public sector funding cuts.
But even with strong leadership, we cannot protect or develop the cultural assets of Cornwall alone. We need the cultural sector, community and stakeholders to pull together to address the key challenges and to make the most of new opportunities.
We have set out in this paper the rationale and framework for a five year culture programme for Cornwall, inviting comment from funding partners, the cultural sector (organisations and individuals), businesses and the wider community.
It is similar to a Government Green Paper; it presents our ideas on a way forward and asks for detailed feedback. With your responses and ideas we can set about putting together some specific proposals for Cornwall that are likely to have widespread support.
Please respond to the prompts and questions and give your views on other relevant matters of concern. We are committed to working in partnership with the whole sector and our communities to develop Cornwall’s cultural offer and would particularly value your contributions to help turn this Green Paper for Culture into definitive proposals and propositions. We are hoping for input from the widest possible group of people.
This is a significant opportunity to have your say in expanding on Cornwall’s already rich cultural heritage and further developing its strong sense of identity. We hope to hear from you and to work with you to make our aspirations a reality.
There are several ways you can respond to this consultation:
In writing to Charlotte Gray, Room 429, New County Hall, Treyew Road, Truro TR1 3AY
Using our online consultation questionnaire at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/R2G9JMS
By email to cdgray@cornwall.gov.uk
Please note the consultation period ends on 15 October. All responses must reach us by 12pm on that day.
